Early this year, Houzz.com published predicted trends in home remodeling for 2019. According to their article titled “32 Home Design Trends That Will Rule in 2019”, these predictions were inspired by a search through Houzz data, hundreds of home design photos, past articles and professional designers. Based on the information collected, consideration was given to six areas of the home: kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms, laundry rooms, exteriors and home tech. The original article is rather lengthy, so we have put together a synopsis of the findings for kitchens, bathrooms and living rooms. Hopefully these style cues can inspire you and your home renovations moving forward.
Bathrooms
‘Spa-like environment’ is the overarching descriptor in 2019 for bathrooms. Luxury and character are where it’s at. Top trends to consider for bathroom remodels are:
- Destination bathtubs: Freestanding tubs are all the rage right now. People are not only embracing the bath, but are celebrating it as a retreat and indulgence, giving particular attention and care to creating views from the tub and choosing its features.
- Natural wood vanities: In past years, darker, painted wood has been prevalent, but this year brings variations of reclaimed wood or lighter wood with clear stains, celebrating the raw personality of the material.
- Electric fireplaces: The spa-like personality of the bathroom this year takes it up a notch with this popular feature, perfect for the freestanding resort tub experience.
- Easy-reach shower controls: Logical shower design is echoed in the trend to move shower controls to the wall opposite of the shower head. No more hiding from the icy cold water as you reach in to turn it on..
- Painted shiplap: Although shiplap has been popular for a while now, painted shiplap in the bathroom is really taking off.
- Moroccan tile floors: Moroccan tiles have been common in kitchens and on fireplace surrounds, but now they are making a bold statement on bathroom floors.
- Drying station: Spaces outside the shower are getting more attention as drying platforms and other self-pampering luxuries are becoming more common.
- No-glass showers: Removing glass enclosures and increasing the wet area is a design that is really generating interest with bathroom remodelers. This concept gives a shower an open and airy feel without the extra cleaning hassle of glass.
